New York. Hochschule Fresenius together with UAS7, the strategic alliance of seven leading German universities of applied sciences in teaching and research, hosted a woman-only breakfast panel titled “Women in Business: A Transatlantic Panel, Workshop and Roundtable Discussion” at the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in New York. Panelists included Ms. Steinert who serves as a part-time lecturer at Hochschule Fresenius in three campuses – Cologne, Düsseldorf and Munich. Along with Ms. Steinert were Dr. Mandel-Portnoy who is the founder and CEO of Cardea Sciences and Assistant Professor at Mount Sinai and Ms. Nienaber von Tuerk who is a lawyer and partner at Becker, Glynn, Muffly, Chassin & Hosinski. The panel was moderated by Ms. Tusiray who is the founder of Hey Ladies! – an organization that focuses on mentorship among women. The invitation with short biographies of the panelists can be found here:https://germanhighereducationbridge.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/invitation-woman-in-business-november-2017.pdf The workshop attracted powerful women leaders from various fields and at various career levels which made it possible to have an engaging and active audience. There was a breakfast and open networking opportunity at the beginning of the event. Participants included Dean of Business at Berkeley College Dr. Zolfo and Vice President (International) Dr. Jaffer as well as members of DAAD, German American Chambers of Commerce as well as the State of New York Governor’s Office. The event was opened by Ms. Nayar (Hochschule Fresenius) and Dr. Schumacher (UAS7) and followed a unique model which means short panel discussion followed by group workshop and then a closing. Key take-away from the event was that women could take charge of creating a community of support for other women in the workplace. (pn)
