Mission Statement of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences
The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences has its roots in the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory founded in 1848 by Carl Remigius Fresenius, and it can look back on over 165 years of educational tradition under private governorship in Germany. This makes it the oldest educational establishment of its kind in the field of chemistry. True to the intent of its founder, it combines teaching, research and practical application. The Fresenius name stands for practice-oriented teaching closely linked to applied research and development. This applies to both the traditional department of Chemistry & Biology as well as both the Health and Economics & Media departments that were established in 1997/98.
On this basis, and in coordination with professional partners as well as in dialogue with organisations, alumni and students, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences has continually developed and expanded its range of courses and its strategic alignment. In doing so, it pursues the goals of sustainability and innovation in equal measure. The motto of the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences: “To teach and research in an application-oriented manner, to embody internationalism, to challenge and support students!”
Our Teaching and Research
Our degree courses, together with the training and advanced education opportunities we offer, impart the scientific knowledge and skills required in the respective specialist field taking into consideration the current and future demands of the employment market. Students apply the theoretical technical knowledge and our research work in the applicational context of vocational practice. Based on the progress of their education, we involve students in our applied research projects. We regard ourselves as an internationally active, practice-oriented and cooperative university of applied sciences. We are actively involved in shaping university education in Europe. Not only do we network at national and international level, but we also work in an interdisciplinary and team-oriented manner in the teaching, research and applicational practice conducted at our university.
Our various study courses qualify our students to assume responsible positions in their respective occupational fields and to continue their education on advanced academic programmes. We set high standards for our students to challenge their commitment. As a private university, we offer them high quality teaching and personal guidance. We create the requisite framework conditions for a shorter duration of study. With our extensive international network of partners in the fields of research, teaching and applicational practice, we explicitly promote and support as a matter of utmost priority the mobility of our students as well as their acquisition of linguistic and intercultural skills. The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences has decades of experience in promoting lifelong learning. From an initial academic education and vocational study courses through to masters’ courses, advanced education concepts and doctorate co-operation arrangements, all our students can choose courses comprising flexible modules. These enable them to achieve their own personal development goals.
The knowledge, abilities and experience of our staff are the most crucial prerequisites for attaining the high standards and relevance of the course contents we offer. We encourage the individual development of our staff members on the basis of a trustworthy management culture. This personal development focuses on the ongoing attainment and development of technical, methodical and didactic skills.
